Fake Apple store in Kumming, China – Steve Jobs must act

Are you listening, Steve Jobs?

From Birdabroad.

“The Western news media is replete with pithy descriptions of the rapid changes taking place in China: China has the world’s fastest growing economy. China is undergoing remarkable and rapid change. This represents a unique moment for a society changing as quickly as China.

You probably read such things in the paper every day – but if you have never been to China, I’m not sure you know quite what this means on a mundane level. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere on this blog, in the 2+ years that RP and I have been in our apartment, much of the area around us has been torn down, rebuilt, or gutted and renovated – in some cases, several times over. I had the thought, only half-jokingly, that when we returned from a couple months abroad, we might not be able to recognize our apartment building. Or that it might not be there at all.

As it turns out, my fears were baseless – our scrappy little home remains. The neighborhood, however, has definitely kicked it up a notch or seven. Starbucks has opened not one, but THREE branches (that I encountered) within a 10 minute walk of one another. An H&M has opened across from our apartment building. These are the kinds of major Western brands that were previously only represented in Kunming by fast food chains like McDonald’s and KFC. Our neighborhood has quickly become the swanky shopping center of the city.

So when we strolled down a street a few blocks from our house a couple weeks ago, I was only sort of surprised to see this new place, one that any American of my generation can probably recognize instantaneously:”

It’s an Apple store!

Or is it?

RP and I went inside and poked around. They looked like Apple products. It looked like an Apple store. It had the classic Apple store winding staircase and weird upstairs sitting area. The employees were even wearing those blue t-shirts with the chunky Apple name tags around their necks.

Open letter to Steve Jobs, Thoughts on iPhone 4

So, Steve released thoughts on Flash… So i thought why don’t I release thoughts on iPhone 4. Well it’s very hard for me to be constructive in my critics when it comes to Apple. Because they are the number one company in the world when it comes to design consumer products. The level of detail and quality in finish isn’t found anywhere else, maybe if you compare to a Leica camera or and old Braun product from the 60′s. The build quality is always down to the micrometer. Almost at atom level. So what will be different with the iPhone 4? Well not much when it comes to the iOS4, we have had video calls in sweden since the beginning of the 00′s. And Face Time seems cool but not like revolution, and it builds on that everyone has an iPhone 4, very good unique selling point, but thats it really. And we have some gorgeous new features like multitasking, folders, unified inboxes. We also sure knows that Apple and Adobe are friends, and the only reason Flash is not supported is, “It’s simply not running fast enough” – Steve Jobs D8. I love that quote, and I so agree with Steve, HTML5 and CSS3 is the open standard we all should live and develop in, I still know people building sites with tables… So simply go learn HTML5 and CSS3, it’s worth the effort. Because it’s the future.

So what about the hardware? Well here it’s starts to get interesting, first of we got this new beautiful housing, with stainless steel and glass enclosure on both the front and the back. We have this stainless steel frame to also with the help of great engineering works as both an antenna for the GPS, WiFi and bluetooth and the other part works as GSM and HSDPA antenna. Thats just shows how far Apple has come in terms of designing and building great products. So now you think… Whats the downside of this? Well first of, how many do you know that hasn’t broken their screen on their iPhone? Mine never got destroyed, touch wood… But i know plenty of people that has dropped their phone from various heights, with vary outcomes. So if this thing is on both the front and the back, will i have shattered glass allover the apartment if i drop it? And will it be all greasy? Or is it scratch/grease resistant? Just thoughts on that, I just love the design more than ever, but my thoughts this time are trying to be objective.

More on hardware, lets look inside, well they gone with a right decision when they boosted the battery, and when they made the iPhone 24% thinner. They also made an amazing thing when they decided to put in the A4 chip in that little magical device. If we look a bit deeper, we see that they change to 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only). This is way better, the still got the Assisted GPS, and Digital Compass. Now they also introduce a gyroscope, this simply means gaming is going to be awesome. Do dig a bit deeper on the Gyro, they combine all the sensors on the device and generate a 6-axis motion tracking device. Position, Gravity & Velocity. Still got that gnarly Bluetooth EDR system, you can now pair your bluetooth keyboard.

What do we got left Steve… Thoughts on the iPhone… Ohhh snap, the Retina Display, wow, really, Retina? I mean in the print industry 300 dpi is somewhat standard for magazines. For you people that don’t understand thats the amount of dots being printed per square inch. PPI is the same but comes in handy when you talk about screens. To compare 326 PPI, the exact number of the Retina Display, to print should be just the same, so it should be like looking at a really nice magazine. And a regular computer screen, like the one you get in a Dell or HP first it was 76 PPI then someone decided to change that to 96, and now we have screens like the one on the iMac with 126 ppi… Pretty higres if you ask me but 326?! Thats really insane, and i can’t wait to see that pixel density on larger screens, when that time comes we will talk SPR 8 HD MEGA CHANNEL QUALITY. The branding wont even fit on TV stickers any more, we’ll need to make the screens bigger to fit the stickers.

Well thats the thing I’m most exited about, the Retina Display, however i think the name is bodacious, like what?! A Retina Display? Do you scan your eyes with it? But thats the only downside.

So thats it, my thoughts on iPhone 4. Whats yours? Please comment or share this post. It’s beautiful journalism.

The Future of the Internet and world wide economic wealth

Photo: Oskar Bakke

So, what is happening on the Internet? Everything has turned very social media(ish) really fast. First, take a second, lean back, if you are on an iPad, are you comfortable? Thing’s weren’t like this 5 years ago… We did not have youtube or HTML5 ready websites that works beautiful on iPhones and Android phones. And what happens next? Are we ready for things to come, when people like those in France, that takes the dullness of social media surfing on Facebook to the next level, “apéro-géant” party’s allover France, thousands of people showing up, meeting other people from Facebook, this is just what the old and dull people said not would happen with technology. People would instead be sitting inside, drinking coke and play video games, of course we have that clientele but we also have murders and sociopaths?! don’t we?

I love the Internet, because this is possible with Internet, me writing to you about the speed of tech, and people taking back the soul purpose, socializing and making it a rich experience with help from technology and gadgets. Just like the iPresident (yes Barack Obama) kids allover the globe uses iPods, Youtube and Facebook. This was not normal 5 years ago. Morse law might not continue to accelerate the numbers of resistors in processors, however the usage and intensity on the Internet won’t slow down.

So is this bad or good for us?! By us i mean mankind, we can build amazing stuff, we can draw beautiful sketches and paint the most wonderful paintings. We are a creative breed, the non-humor side of it is, that we are also the most deconstructive living embolism on earth. We kill, plunder, rape and conduct wars that hurt in millions of human lives. We are at constant war against terrorism, cultures and religions.

So is this Internet something that we can unite in or shall this to shred us apart. In Europe we got ACTA, they simply want to stop piracy, and if you read into it, they want to stop individuality on the Internet as we know it. There are a thousand ways of looking at this, we can love it, hate it, live with it or destroy it. I’ve learned to live in symbiosis with it, I can’t really live without it, and I don’t want it to consume more of my life that it already does.

The photo above, shot by a young talented photographer from Sweden, Oskar Bakke somewhat speaks to me, it’s like the internet, in the left, we got the light and bright future where we all take advantage of the simplicity and goodness the internet can provide us with. In the right however is the dark, clouded part, the part where US Army send drone orders to UAV’s to murder innocent people, part of this information is transferred via the Internet. I however see the vehicle as us, mankind, driving really fast, like surreal fast, on an endless jet strip, in one of the fastest moving things on earth, away from that dark era, into a brighter future, with zero carbon footprints and a lifestyle that are not fixed on war and economic crisis, nor religion battles instead we are looking on quality in life, versatile urban living, diverse cultural experiences, across border knowledge bases and eco friendly solutions in every aspect of life.

This is a lot of words, but just fractions of whats inside my head, what are your thoughts on todays Internet and worldwide crises? Comment, write me an email, what ever suits you.

iWatch – We want this Apple…

The Italian design studio ADR Studio has dreamed up this iPhone-inspired clock which translates as “iWatch”.

In their dreams so iWatch is equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth, built-in projector, weather application, RSS reader, and 16GB of internal memory.

If we ever get to see a iWatch on the market is something probably only Steve Jobs knows about. But I might think that it would be a nice market for Apple to break into, now that it has done so well in the other segments is tested.

iPhone 4G first leak, Gizmodo Exclusive

While Apple may tinker with the final packaging and design of the final phone, it’s clear that the features in this lost-and-found next-generation iPhone are drastically new and drastically different from what came before. Here’s the detailed list of our findings:

What’s new
• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×640 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s changed
• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Dissected iPad, never before seen.

This is from our dears friends over at ifixit.com. They always give us the inside truth from our lovely Apple products, the same thing with the new Apple iPad. Here is some engineering love.
